At Muddy Toes, you'll find us outdoors in every season. Some days we're building sandcastles at the beach. Other days we're splashing through puddles, watching clouds roll in, or searching for insects after the rain.

Time outdoors gives children something no classroom can replicate. They develop balance by climbing, resilience by navigating uneven ground, confidence by trying things for themselves, and curiosity by exploring a world that's constantly changing. They learn to assess risk, solve problems, care for living things and connect with the environment in ways that can't be taught from a worksheet.

Rain, wind or sunshine, nature is always offering something new to discover.

Some of our best classrooms don't have walls.

Most days, you'll find part of our centre exploring beyond the gate. We visit beaches, bush reserves, parks and local walking tracks because the world is full of opportunities to learn, wonder and connect.

A walk to the beach might spark questions about tides. A fallen pōhutukawa branch becomes a climbing challenge. A crab shell found in the sand might inspire weeks of curiosity back at the centre.

Our excursions aren't special events. They're simply part of growing up at Muddy Toes.

Confidence isn't built by always getting it right. It's built by trying.

Whether it's climbing a little higher, balancing across a log or figuring out the safest way down a bank, children learn by testing themselves. Our experienced kaiako carefully assess the environment, support each child's ability and encourage them to make thoughtful decisions for themselves.

When children are trusted to take supported risks, they don't just become more capable - they begin to believe they are.
